Fall Down Seven Times, Stand Up Eight

This wooden sculpture depicts Daruma, the founder of Zen Buddhism, in a familiar “self-righting” form.

Its rounded silhouette embodies the timeless spirit of resilience and perseverance, expressed in the phrase “Nanakorobi Yaoki” — fall seven times, rise eight.

Unlike the stern “Wall-Gazing Daruma,”

this figure represents one who has already overcome adversity.

The expression holds a calm strength—

a dignified presence attainable only by those who have endured and risen again.
